| Dwight Smith Memorial Educational Fund |
The Fairfax Friends of the Juvenile Court and the employees of the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court proudly announce the establishment of the Dwight Smith Memorial Education Fund. Prior to losing his battle with cancer on July 31, 2002, Dwight had served as a parole officer with this court for five years; and his dedication to his clients and his determination to assist others resulted in the foundation of this fund in his memory.
Although he worked with the most difficult population of juvenile court clients, Dwight was very kindhearted and assisted those in need. Often, Dwight remained in the office long after the day had ended for his peers, as he worked tirelessly on arranging services for juveniles and assisting their families through difficult situations. Each case was not just a job to Dwight but a mission that he refused to abandon until it was completed.
Dwight’s friends, peers, colleagues, and the Friends of the Court are committed to continuing his mission by improving the lives of juveniles and their families in Fairfax County. The establishment of this scholarship fund to assist at-risk juveniles who wish to pursue a post high school education will allow Dwight’s mission to continue.
